Humans
Humans are renowned for their tenacity. Very rarely have they given
up in the face of hardships. This zeal has extended to such a level that they have
maintained activities for decades with no hope of a return on their efforts.
If not for this small fact, humans would be completely unremarkable.
They do not have particularly good eyes, they're not all that smart, they're not very
strong, tall, short, or much of anything. They are successful, however.
Unlike most of the other races, they were also not united. There
were several indpendent human empires. During the Time of Gold, the leaders of these
empires formed a dominating force in the council governing the combined empires of
Dransik.
The Lotorian Kingdom
The wealthy and heavily populated homeland of the humans, occupying most of
Krythan Island, and encompassing the formerly independent cities of Varg and Jeel, as well
as the former Republic of Silvest.
The Kingdom of Scarab
A breakaway splinter of the Lotorian Kingdom, originally founded as a penal
colony. A prisoner revolt seized control of the city of Lopal and broke away to form a new
evil kingdom.
The Emperium of Parian
The largest of the human cities which now lays a weak claim to an immense land
empire and providing most of the food supply for the entire mainland, but was at constant
odds with the Kingdom of Ethera, the Dark Empire of Darushk, and the defunt Driskal's
Domain. Most of the outlying cities of the Emperium were destroyed in the Rune Wars,
although one new city has been built in recent years.
The Kingdom of Ethera
Once the most powerful of the human empires, centered on a city built of glittering
jewels. Ethera constantly fought with Parian for control of the cities of Lyrina and
Welderant, and still lays a claim to Parian's city of Arda, but now lacks the might or
resources to contest that claim.
Dark Empire of Darushk
An imposing name claimed by a small underground city. Darushk was a penal colony
built by Parian. After Prince Driskal broke away from Parian to found his own evil city in
the caves south of Welderant, Darushk seized the opportunity to claim their independence.
They lay claim to immense land areas formerly occupied by the Komodan Kingdom and
contested with Parian, but neither country has actively attempted to occupy the land.
Driskal's Domain (historical)
Now the Orc exile city of Grell, Driskal's Domain was a powerful military force led by
Prince Driskal of Parian. Driskal and his brother fought over their father's throne, and
Driskal was cast out of Parian. Driskal's Domain was destroyed by the Orcs after the Dark
Prince allied himself with the Rune Warriors.
The Chleran Confederacy
The Chleran Confederacy used to be the richest empire in the world. They
controlled the largest sources of raw gold and golden iron in the world, as well as
immense stretches of land bordering the Orcish empire, the Badlands, the Great Desert, and
the Battle Plains, and extending all the way north to the Ocean shore. Chlera was ruled by
a loose amalgamation of trade guilds built on the wealth of the gold mines, and nearly
collapsed after the failure of the gold mines, and its guilds turned to piracy and crime.
The city now lies in partial ruins, with damage unrepaired from the Rune Wars.
The Free State of Desprail
Desprail is the oldest city on the mainland, believed to have been built by a
long extinct race. It was abandoned by the time humans built Chlera. Some of the weaker
Chleran guilds attempted to set up shops there, but it was always a lawless haven of
criminals too evil even for the dark cities like Lopal and Darushk. With the fall of
Chlera, it has become a free state, with no government and no intentions for one, ruled by
raw power.
The United Empire of Josody
The last of the great human empires to be founded. Josody and its outlying
vassals were ruled by a benevolent government and an elected senate. The land was
peaceful, however relations with the Astari were strained, and Josody and the Astari
capitol of Solodon stood ever ready for war.
The Lost Kingdom of Martarus
Martarus was a largely unknown underground city in the north mainland, deep
inside of Soluri lands, although the area was later taken over by the Gnolls. Next to
nothing is known about Martarus, and its fate in the Rune Wars is unknown.
